Hometown Waterboy/Waterkid

Mark your calendars for the Hometown Waterboy (2 mile run/375 yd. swim/ 2 mile run) & Waterkid (1/3 mile run/50 yd. swim/ 1/3 mile run) or Landlovers 2 miler & Kids Scramble (1/3 mile run) on Saturday, August 7th at Burkwood Swim & Racquet Club.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Scott Rigsby Foundation, a nonprofit organization that exists to inspire and enable physically challenged individuals and athletes.  Scott Rigsby was 18 years old when he was hit while riding in the back of a truck by a passing 18 wheeler, throwing him underneath a 3 ton attached trailer and dragging him 300 feet.  His back suffered 3rd degree burns, his right leg was severed off and and his left leg hung barely intact.  After 26 surgeries, additional amputation, fear, and uncertainty, Scott Rigsby turned his life around.  15 years after his accident, Scott became the 1st double amputee in the world to finish the Hawaiian Ironman.  Scott will be present at the Waterboy, possibly participate, book signing, and briefly speak.  Scott will share his incredible story (approx. 1 hr) on Saturday, August 7th at Burkwood Swim & Racquet Club at 6 p.m.  (Presented by Sportable, a nonprofit organization focused on providing recreation & sports opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities in the Richmond area (www.sportable.org) & TRIgirl/TRIkid/TRIquest Training.  "Do the Unthinkable" is the inspirational message that Scott Rigsby has shared with many people across the country.  Scott will also speak at 3 services at New Hanover Presbyterian Church (9 a.m., 10:10 a.m., 11:15 a.m.) on Sunday, August 8th.  For more info. about Scott and his foundation, visit www.scottrigsby.com
